Need for Speed World launching July 27

Need for Speed World launching July 27

The Golden Age of MMOs is upon us, as every well-known franchise is rushing into the genre.

EA's racing MMO, Need for Speed World, will be launching in exactly one week, on July 27. Bizarre Creation's Blur had previously emphasized social racing, and the upcoming Hot Pursuit carries the idea even further with real-time interaction between players. NFS World just takes that concept way further. You'll be able to challenge other racers, customize your vehicle, and progress through an RPG-esque tale of illegal street racing. Expect to see cops.

The NFS World Starter Pack is available for pre-order today, with plenty of incentives. Pre-ordering opens up early access today, exclusive cars, double XP, a VIP tag on your World profile, and the ability to reserve driver names before everyone else gets their shot.

The 'Starter Pack' itself is priced at $20.00 USD and includes $20 in in-game currency (called SpeedBoost), full access up to level 50, and special power-ups to give you the upper hand against other racers -- unless they bought the Pack too. Additional items like power-ups, double XP boosts, and rental vehicles will also be marked down to just a few cents.

Anyone on the fence about this game can find a demo (soon) from the official site. You can climb up to level 10 before progression is halted.
