Molyneux: Fable III learns from GTA

Fable III learns from GTA

Peter Molyneux knows video games, and he actually likes how Rockstar set up the menus in Grand Theft Auto. So Fable III did away with the plain ol' lists, accessed by simply pressing Start. Instead, players will now access maps, menus, clothing, and other such out-of-game stuff through a collection of rooms, called "The Sanctuary."

Molyneux explained that the idea comes from GTA and how Rockstar's clever integration of menus into the in-game world; return to your apartment to save, or run into a restaurant to replenish health.

"I think things like Grand Theft Auto [have influenced us] - the way they use shops rather than doing lists is great. We've used some of that, especially in The Sanctuary area. I just feel the way that entertainment is going is trying to give us less and less complexity or 'fiddly-ness' and more accessibility."

He also assures everyone that Kinect connectivity won't be limited to "some crass mini-game where you jump around and kick chickens." And we really want to believe him.

Fable III is due for Xbox 360 on October 26, and Molyneux promises the PC version will follow "a few days later."
