A testament to the versatility of StarCraft II's modding tools, YouTube user and modder "SkriK" is currently showing off his new creation: the simply titled Final Fantasy: StarCraft II mod.
You wouldn't think of the two franchises -- one JRPG, one RTS, and from opposite sides of the world -- would mix, but the guy has done a great job of making it feel natural. The result is kind of like 1999's Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator, and of course, the PlayStation-era Final Fantasy installments.
Final Fantasy is currently a work in progress, of course. Currently, SkriK is working on summons, inventory, quests, a world map, and more. It's noted the story will not be based on Square's universe, despite the name (StarCraft's, then, we presume).
For more on the StarCraft II mod scene, SC2Mapster.com seems to be the place to go; they're currently featuring other mods based on other RPG templates, chess, sidescrolling, and more.
