Creative Assembly has returned to the strategy field, now working on their next title Shogun 2: Total War for the PC.
The original game was released 10 years ago; naturally its sequel also takes place in 16th century Feudal Japan, lovingly depicted by the traditional art you see here. The plot finds Japan split into multiple warring clans where it was once unified; you play clan leader Daimyo, set to reunite the country and become the new Shogun.
Gameplay is likely what you care more about though, and Shogun 2 boasts quite a number of tantalizing features like 3D battles over land and sea, the return of the tactical campaign map, and a new AI system "inspired by the scriptures that influenced Japanese warfare" known as The Art of War. It's said studying the scriptures has made for easy to learn, hard to master strategy -- let's hope it's less buggy and has more competent AI than Empire: Total War did, at least at launch.
Sega is publishing and will release the game sometime next year.
