Cyberpunk Source mod Dystopia 1.2 released on Steam

Cyberpunk Source mod Dystopia 1.2 released on Steam

A milestone new version of a popular Source mod came out today: it is called Dystopia 1.2.

After many long nights, the dev' team finally put the final touches on this full conversion Source mod. The new version adds a great deal to the game, including new maps, updated and improved graphics, new gameplay changes, and an overhauled stat system. With the release of version 1.2, the game can now be directly downoaded straight from Steam as well.

So, what's the game all about, you might be wondering.

It's a FPS. Science-fiction, cyberpunk themed. Two teams. For each spawn you can customize your character by choosing to be either a light, medium or heavy solider, and then from there, you can select a variety of implants and augmentations to use, such as thermal vision, or a suicide "cortex bomb."

Dystopia also features a 'cyberspace decking' component. Players that have the proper implants can jack into computer terminals, which control real-world "meatspace" security system like turrets and doors.

This is not a game that you can just dive into -- they maps take time to learn, and the game is probably a little different than any other FPS you've yet played. But stick with it, if you try it out. The game takes a bit of time to learn because it has great depth to it -- and once you get over that initial noob hump, you'll begin to be appreciate this depth.

The maps are designed with multiple paths to completing objectives, and each one has one has both a meatspace and cyberspace component. Inside of simple death match or capture the flag games, each map has a set of objectives that must be completed in order by your team.

In Dystopia, you can either be a cyberpunk -- a heavily armed data criminal -- or work for the transnational super-corporations. Either way, you are going to be shooting and hacking people up with swords. Good times.

If you have Half Life 2 I highly recommend checking out Dystopia. Especially if you are bored of the standard death match online FPS game, Dystopia brings a great deal to the cyber-table, and the large development team behind the game is both talented and devoted to delivering the best multiplayer cyberpunk game that the PC has ever seen -- free or commercial.

To download the game, just start up Steam, and do a search for "Dystopia." Then you'll be ready to rock.
