Activision Blizzard welcomed the revival of the Electronic Entertainment Expo to its bold and beefy roots, and and as a result promised to return as an exhibitor. Well as it turns out, the company today clarifies that technically only one half of the merger will be present at the convention in Los Angeles later this June: ActiBlizz confirms that Diablo/Starcraft developer Blizzard will not be attending. To be sure, Blizzard has already been skipping out on E3 for the past few years. E3 2009 promised to reclaim a bit of lost glory, but it looks like it will still be doing it without Blizzard. But hey, Activision itself will still be there!
Blizzard's continued absence from E3 means that the industry will not have a chance to go hands-on with some of their most anticipated titles, namely Starcraft II and Diablo III, come this June. Of course, there's always BlizzCon, though the publisher has yet to announce the event for 2009.
