Since detailing the first bits of Braid creator Jonathan Blow's new game last summer, the guy and his small team at Number None have been hard at work. We knew it would be in many ways -- fundamentally at least -- similar to Braid, incorporating "puzzle-exploration", philosophy, and emphasizing colour and aesthetics.
Blow has now pulled the lid on the new title (called The Witness), delivering some concept art and "rough draft" placeholder screenshots along with his thoughts on design choices. Granted, it's in the early stages, but the game seems to resemble the Myst series to some extent.
One overarching theme here will be simplicity, both in graphical style and design itself -- no bulky engines used here, rather only their own custom-made precomputing global illumination package to achieve just the right look with little cost on the user end.
Blow says the package is suited to "mellower" environments, so expect at least a somewhat relaxing experience.
That's all for now. Check back in the many months to come for more of The Witness.
