The PC version of Assassin's Creed II releases today in Australia and tomorrow in Europe (March 16 for North Americans), and just ahead of it comes a nifty patch.
As many already know, like many other new and future Ubisoft titles on PC, Assassin's Creed II requires a constant Internet connection for play. One of the issues people had with this (besides the obvious) was being disconnected for whatever reason would see you lose progress made since your last checkpoint. Ubisoft seems to have listened to this complaint; you'll now be able to resume from the exact point at which you were disconnected, should it occur. The same system is implemented in The Settlers 7; if Ubisoft does continue with this DRM, hopefully at the least this specific kind of resume functionality becomes standard.
Aside from that and a few minor changes, Eyefinity support is now available, meaning you can hop the rooftops of Italy across multiple displays for maximum eye candy and immersion.
See the release notes below, and grab the patch at the source now or once it's released in your region.
Changes in v1.01
- Game can now be continued from the exact same point when connection is restored
- Added support for ATI Eyefinity technology
- Fixed minor performance issues related to some multi-core processors
- Now resets graphics options if a new video card or monitor is detected
- Fixed some minor issues in Uplay Browser
