Ubisoft DRM servers experiencing trouble, hackers blamed [Update]

Ubisoft DRM servers experiencing trouble, hackers blamed [Update]

Ubisoft's new DRM scheme -- which requires a permanent Internet connection -- has proved problematic for a significant amount of gamers trying to play Assassin's Creed II and Silent Hunter 5 on PC since yesterday.

"Apologies to anyone who couldn’t play ACII or SH5 yesterday," writes Ubisoft. "Servers were attacked which limited service from 2:30pm to 9pm Paris time."

While many gamers are saying they are simply avoiding responsibility, an attack is plausible given the amount of opposition the DRM has faced, in addition to the opportunity to make a point.

The company claims 95 percent of players were not affected, including those already in the middle of a session. The official Ubisoft forums see 27 pages of complaints and discussion -- Steam forums, 19.

Ubisoft adds "valid" cracks for the games have not yet been released, either, which they are happy about.

Update: Ubi says its servers are under attack again. We'll keep you posted.

Update 2: "Login servers were partially reestablished at 10pm CET and fully restored at 1am CET. The attack affected only those trying to login."
