Crysis 2 trailer, screens debut

Crysis 2 trailer, screens debut

The curtain has finally been pulled on Crysis 2, the shooter sequel from technical experts Crytek.

Following the events of the first game, the Crysis universe is now in chaos, simply put. Those jerk aliens are back stronger than ever, bent on destroying humanity. New York City is the setting as many already knew, and it's here citizens have to deal with not only the enemy, but a plague as well. As you can imagine, things are pretty torn up. Fortunately "one man" (you, of course) are there with your Nanosuit 2, ready to fight back.

Crytek is big on the iconography and patriotism associated with New York (debut footage was played in Times Square this morning), and it sounds like this will come through strongly in the end experience.

As for multiplayer, it turns outTimesplitters developer Crytek UK (formerly known as Free Radical) are taking care of that department.

The trailer is one of those awful special ones, reminiscent of that lovely Gears of War trailer from years back. With some haunting music and a slow pace, it's not what many would expect for a debut.

Meanwhile the technically minded can check out our Crysis 2 Achieved With CryEngine 3 video.

Along with the reveal comes some screens and concept art (see below), and also the announcement of Richard Morgan taking care of the writing. Morgan, if you're not familiar, is the author of sci-fi bestselling novels Altered Carbon and Broken Angels. After the last game's plot was called "predictable", Crytek decided to hire on Morgan to give things sincere depth and unpredicability. Word is you "don't know what's going on, and you don't know what's coming next."

“Video games are one of the only things in my life I would qualify as a complete addiction,” said Morgan. “The medium has every bit the potential for exciting and emotionally charged storytelling as literature and film, and I’m excited to explore this format on my first project in partnership with a world class developer like Crytek.”

“At Crytek, we pride ourselves on working with the most elite talent in the industry, and Richard is no exception,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “He has helped us take our ideas for Crysis 2 and transform them into a story that really engages the player in many new and exciting ways. His passion for his craft and for games is a perfect match for our team and we can’t wait for gamers to experience this collaboration.”

Crysis 2 launches on PS3, 360, and PC this holiday season.
