Grimoire Assembly Forge announces Dudebro II for dudes and bros

Grimoire Assembly Forge announces Dudebro II for dudes and bros

It all started with a thread about Ubisoft's Imagine: Babyz Fashion at gaming forum NeoGAF, with one simple innocent response by member cuyahoga on December 7th, 2009:

So, I'm a pedophile because I don't want to play Dudebro, My Shit is F----- Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It's Straight-Up Dawg Time? To throw around these sort of accusations at someone who seeks to do something different suggests quite the insecurity on your part.

After comments on the game title presented by cuyahoga and the appearance of character sketches of the theoretical Dudebro, GAFfers Jocchan and thetrin rolled with the idea of the game even further, laying the framework for what would become a legend. The project became a community effort, for all members of NeoGAF to partake in and contribute. Two months later, the studio Grimoire Assembly Forge, comprised of over 100 volunteer members of NeoGAF, have officially announced the development of Dudebro - My Shit is F----- Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It's Straight-Up Dawg Time, due for a Summer 2010 release for the PC and Mac.

Dudebro II stars none other than the elite soldier John Dudebro and his sidekick, Habemus Chicken, out to protect the world' brodiocity from all those who threaten it, be it an arms dealer, voodoo priest, or an evil glee club. Standing in Dudebro and Chicken's path to these nefarious forces are video games' most iconic expendable enemies, including aliens, zombies, and yetis (well, maybe not so much iconic). Providing the voice of John Dudebro is none other than Jon St. John, the legendary voice actor of Duke Nukem, who signed onto the project after being approached by GAFfer Dacvak a couple days after meeting him at MAGfest in Alexandria, Virginia.

The title aims to parody and pay homage to the muscle-bound overly-macho protagonists and the excessive violence, profanity, and immaturity that mainstream video games are rife with. However, the remnants of old-school gaming remain in Dudebro II, which will be a top-down shooter with power-ups, pixel-art story sequences, and over-the-top boss fights that no bro should mess around with. While being called Dudebro II, the game is the first in the series, because any hardcore gamer knows that sequels are better than the original.

Dudebro II is built using the Unity 3D engine, and the programming is led by none other than Will Goldstone, the author of Unity Game Development Essentials, who lent his support after hearing of the project. With its launch this summer, the title will be available for free download on the game's official site, http://www.dudebro2.com, playable as a standalone application or inside the browser of any PC or Mac.
