While there is no exact release date announced yet, the latest Blizzcast unexpectedly drops a solid timeframe of sorts for the release of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty.
You haven't asked this question yet, but I'll answer it ahead of time. We were targeting three to five months for the beta, we're really at a three month period of time for the beta at this point. We are still targeting the first half of this year, so with that in mind, it really shortens the window of time with our major content patch coming out pretty close to the end whether it's even worth it putting out the map editor at that point.
Okay, so we may not see the map editor tested during the beta. That little tidbit just became completely irrelevant if it means that the game is coming out three months from now and while there may be a gap between the end of beta and release, the statement would still point towards May-June 2010 release date for Starcraft II!
Assuming that everything goes fine during the beta test, obviously. Blizzard doesn't announce release dates 2174until they are sure they can meet them.
Yet I wouldn't worry too much - considering how smoothly the game works right now in beta, with almost no problems to speak of beyond the usual worries about unit and faction balance, I would say that the odds are good. It would also make sense in that a release later in 2010 would conflict with That Other Big Blizzard Release, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm , due in late 2010.
