Well, it is about time. While RTS players wait for Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, we real strategy gamers - holders of the sacred torch of turn-based strategy - have been waiting for something else... and it is coming. Firaxis and 2K Games have announced Civilization V, arriving in Fall 2010.
There is a bit of information available on the fresh official site at this time. At least one thing points towards more than just a minor refresh: Civ V uses hexes instead of squares! Feature list also includes new graphics engine with improved visuals, more intuitive user interface with improved advisors, 18 civilizations, improved diplomacy, tweaks to combat and more emphasis on online play - including competitive online play. Comprehensive modding support is also mentioned.
Can't wait. And yes, it is coming exclusively for the PC.
