Final Fantasy XIV gets free trial extension, major updates soon

Final Fantasy XIV Online is facing a very rough start at the moment and Square Enix wants to make good with the players. To get things going, they'll be extending the free trial period by an additional month to anyone who creates an account by October 25.

As for the game itself, the user interface, enemy distribution, and party balancing are getting overhauled to make questing around more enjoyable. Retainers are still going to be in place but a new search and marking system should make it easier to find the items you need. Server lag will also be addressed by splitting up areas in the overworld to decrease server load.

FFXIV director Nobuaki Komoto also made a statement on how often major updates will be rolled out:

"Allow me to begin by stating that the development team plans to release a version update at a rate of once every three months, of which the large-scale version update currently planned for December will be the first."

Sounds like new content should be expected on a quarterly basis. The above changes will be coming along much sooner though.
