Blizzard suing StarCraft II hack and cheat creators

Not content with banning just over 5,000 cheaters from StarCraft II, Blizzard is now going after those who made the hacks and cheating programs in the first place.

Three individuals are being accused of multiple counts of copyright infringement and Blizzard is seeking damages from the sales of the hacks. Blizzard claims all the hacking and cheating cause irreparable harm to StarCraft II and devalue the game:

"By distributing the Hacks to the public, Defendants cause serious harm to the value of StarCraft II. Among other things, Defendants irreparably harm the ability of Blizzard's legitimate customers (i.e. those who purchase and use unmodified games) to enjoy and participate in the competitive online experience. That, in turn, causes users to grow dissatisfied with the game, lose interest in the game, and communicate that dissatisfaction, thereby resulting in lost sales of the game or 'add-on' packs and expansions thereto."

In addition to seeking relief, Blizzard will also demand that the programs be pulled from wherever they're hosted from. A court date has yet to be announced.
