Telltale Games has made quite a name for themselves by refreshing classic PC adventure gaming franchises like Monkey Island and Sam & Max through episodic gaming. Now Telltale is on the lookout to deliver new and innovative titles from its internal studios to the market, and to this end the company has revealedits "game pilot" program.
Like television pilots, the intent is sell if "prototypes" of new franchises will catch on with audiences, or in Telltale's case the episodic gaming market. Successful pilots stand to fully graduate to the publisher's episodic gaming model. The first title Telltale intends to market though its pilot program will be Puzzle Agent, scheduled for release later this June on the PC, Mac, iPod Touch/iPhone, iPad, and Wii platforms.
Puzzle Agent's particular blend of adventure and brainteasers may bring to mind Professor Layton, and indeed Telltale's press release cites Nintendo's series as an inspiration for what could be a new franchise of their own. Like Layton, Puzzle Agent benefits from distinct art direction that carries over to all the in-game graphics. Whether or not it stands to join Telltale's other series will depend on how well it does as a game pilot!
