God of War writer signs on for Shank

God of War writer signs on for Shank

Starting out recently as a virtually unknown independent developer, Klei entertainment have since partnered with Electronic Arts, and now signed God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk for their 2D stylized action game Shank.

"I'm very excited to be a part of Shank ," said Marianne Krawczyk. "I fell in love with the artwork, characters and world that Klei Entertainment created and together we are creating a story that will allow gamers to explore a world where values like integrity and loyalty take on their own twisted meanings."

"When Shank was first conceived, we envisioned a fully realized world with provocative characters living out a mature, cinematic story," said Jamie Cheng, CEO of Klei Entertainment. "Marianne has been able to flesh out our characters, and create a gritty, personal and unique story of full frontal revenge."

Cheng tells the tale in the Shank blog, saying they met at GDC 2008 and got to talking about how much fun it'd be to work on a game where the story could be told exactly how they wanted it to. He's pleased and grateful to have her on board, and says she's easy to work with. Most importantly, she does great work.

"I think she might have an even more twisted imagination than we do," he writes. "She’s certainly not shy with the occasional F-bomb and mature content, but even the reference material she sent us was crazy. I’d work with her again in a heart-beat."

Shank is a downloadable title set for release on PC, Xbox LIVE and PSN this summer.
