Square Enix cuts swastikas from Black Ops in Japan

We're not sure why, but video game censorship often comes off a bit silly, and the latest story comes from Square Enix and their handling of Black Ops overseas.

The Japanese publishing giant is responsible for distributing the latest Call of Duty in Japan, and in October, they announced several changes that would be made in accordance to the country's content regulations, set by the CERO ratings board.

What will SquEnix be chopping? Any scenes that involved dismemberment and other "expressions of brutality" -- such as an interrogation scene -- were to be excluded in all localized versions of Black Ops. The company did promise to keep zombie mode fully intact; that is not longer case.

Swastikas are apparently no-no, so they'll be replaced in zombie mode by the Iron Cross, at least for PC and dubbed console versions. Subtitled console editions will be keeping their Nazi emblems as is.
