Darksiders 2 will occur alongside first game, not after

Last week, many of us were disappointed to learn that Darksiders 2 is nowhere near completion and won't be ready until at least late 2012. Until then, how about more juicy details?

According to THQ, the second Darksiders will actually cover events that occurred around the same time as the first game. Basically, you'll be playing as someone else while War's doing his thing.

THQ's Danny Bilson explains the obvious reasons behind this decision:

"When we do the Darksiders sequel, it'll be a different character and take place simultaneously to the other story. There's only one apocalypse -- I couldn't very well have four different apocalypses, one for each rider. It has some new mechanics and some very robust features that differentiate it a lot and grow it from the first game because you have to build on the first one, you can't repeat it. I think that's very important in franchise-building."

He makes a good point with the "only one apocalypse" thing. As for the new guy (or girl), we're thinking it could be one of War's colleagues, given there's three of them to choose from. Maybe even one of Heaven's angels? It's too early to tell, at this point, so let your imaginations run wild.
