A new Direct3D 10 renderer has been released, bringing a few PC games running on the first iteration of the Unreal Engine into modern times. The project is similar to the OpenGL renderer for Unreal Tournament project, but also applies to Unreal, Deus Ex, and Rune.
The author says the aim here is to "provide a good, consistent looking and future proof renderer for these games. The focus is not on fancy effects; the idea is to have something that will allow these games to perform well and look good on modern systems, something which I can support and bugfix." Source code and documentation have been released too, so if you're into this sort of thing, feel free to help out.
The code is written from scratch so it scraps much of the legacy content and takes full advantage of D3D 10; Windows Vista or 7 is required.
Head to the source to check out the project yourself. It looks quite easy to set up, so most should have no trouble.
On a related note, a personal favourite digital distributor GamersGate is currently having a sale on the Unreal Complete Pack, Deus Ex, and plenty more great action games.
