Amnesia: The Dark Descent Goes Gold
Spreading the good news today, Frictional Games has announced that their upcoming first person horror title, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, has officially gone gold and will be hitting major digital distribution outlets on September 8th. To celebrate this milestone, the developers have released a short teaser trailer. Enjoy:

Blacklight: Tango Down title update 2 released
Zombie Studios have today released a major update to Blacklight: Tango Down on Xbox 360 and PC (sorry, PS3 players).
The update incorporates about as many fixes as it does changes to improve the experience, like addressing the spawn camping issue. In short, it should be a tighter and more pleasurable game all around.
Release notes are below; grab the patch through Xbox LIVE or Games for Windows LIVE now.
Changes:
• Reset player’s trial timer. Trial timer is now set to 20 minutes for both players who have already
used up their trial timer, as well as new users downloading the trial for the first time.
• PC version will support Steam achievements
• Added a new controller layout: Standard 2, which swaps the crouch and melee button mappings
• Added a watermark version number to the title screen.
• Increased intermission time from one minute to roughly 1 minute 45 seconds to allow for more
players to join a match once the required amount of players is met.
• Increased the additional player search time when searching for a quick match from 12 to 15
seconds.
• Intermissions now show the time remaining on screen when timers are active in order to better
communicate how much time is left in an intermission.
• Modified the Find Games search dialog box to provide more informative information. It now
describes where the player is in the search process (searching, succeeded, choosing best game
and joining).
• Added the ability to switch teams in private match. This is done with a button press when
viewing the player list.
• Made player names colored based on team in the kill list.
• Increased spawn invincibility armor by 50% from 2 seconds to 3 seconds.
• Dropped spawn turret damage by 50%.
• Reduced the shotgun’s maximum range by 36%. It now linearly drops off damage faster over a
shorter distance.
• Decreased the grenade bounciness by 10%.
• Decreased the round time from 15 minutes to 10 minutes.
• Viewpoints are now chosen at random when switching to spectate mode. Players will then cycle
through all available cameras while in this mode.
• Quick Match games now cycle from map to map based on what the players in the current match
have recently played. Thus, players should not repeat maps when staying in the same match.
• Increased the amount of XP earned for completing a match to 500.
• Increased the amount of XP earned for winning a match to 250. Winners will also get the 500
for completion as well.
• Increased the LMG’s damage by 10% and decreased its spread by 20%.
Fixes:
• Fixed a bug where after a host migration in Domination, control points would sometimes show
up as dark gray rather than the color of the team they are controlled by.
• Fixed an issue that was causing sprint to not function when using a South Paw controller
configuration.
• Fixed the match making issues that caused quick match “Find Games” to take extremely long.
Previously players would sit at “Searching for Games” for a very long time before possibly
finding a game. No longer should this happen.
• Added a recent bad host black list. Players will no longer attempt to join stale games.
• Fixed the issue that allowed players to join a game after the intermission had ended, but before
the game had begun. Previously players were joining the game after intermission, and then
being kicked from the game when the match began and as players registered for stat arbitration.
• Fixed an issue where the 9mm spawn in effect was not appearing correctly in some cases.
• Fixed an issue where Quick Match games would change game types when a host migration
occurred when the new host had been invited from a match playing a different game type.
• Fix for the Quick Match menu game mode filter not being saved to what it was previously after
backing out of an intermission.
• Fixed an issue where players could occasionally get stuck cooking a grenade and be unable to
throw it.
• Fixed an issue where meleeing while you were cooking a grenade would cause the cooking timer
to reset.
• Players can no longer melee or switch weapons while cooking a grenade.
• Fix for an issue where the game would occasionally not end after a host migration, forcing
players to quit manually.
• Fixed an issue where control points would sometimes become unhackable by opponents when
they should have been hackable.
• Fixed an issue with unplugging controllers at the title screen could cause the game to soft‐lock.
• Fixed an issue where semi‐automatic weapons could be fired as if they were automatic weapons.
• Fix for the incorrect error message being displayed when pulling out the network cable while in
a loading screen.
• Fix for connection issues being properly and more robustly handled.
• Fix for errors that occur during host migration potentially showing up in English when playing in
a language other than English.
• Fixed an issue where weapon attachments that were set to “none” were not actually being set
to none, but instead were using information from the previous attachment in that slot. This will
make it so the revolver will not inherit increased magazine loads from other weapons.
• Fix for an issue where in rare instances users were not able to hack the first server in Burial
Ground.
• Fix for exploit where users were able to fire their gun while in HRV.
• Fixed an issue where camo names were inconsistent between character camos and weapon
camos.
• Fixed an issue which caused HRV to be functional when flashbanged. Users were able to get
flashed and then switch to HRV to be able to see.
• Fixed an issue in Black Ops where players would be forever stuck in the Lobby if a player joined
and then left.
• Fix for a rare issue where loadouts would occasionally not be set properly after playing a match.
• Fixed an issue such that players can no longer be flashbanged when under spawn invincibility.
• Fix for an issue where some players were reporting that they were unable to acquire the
Gearhead achievement, despite having ranked to 70. We now have a safeguard that ensures a
player gets the achievement when they earn it.
• Fixed for multi‐kill not functioning properly. It was not properly adding the right amount of time
to allow players to get the next kill. Players should now have 2‐3 seconds between kills to
where they will continue to count as a multi‐kill.
• Fixed an issue that caused footsteps of others to not be heard by players.

World of Warcraft expansions always have a hard time getting into China, like in the case of Burning Crusade, in which "questionable content" delayed its overseas release. The content in question included some torture sequence, another problems being the abundant use of skulls and corpses.
Chinese government regulators with the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) and the Ministry of Culture (MOC) initially revoked Chinese online game publisher NetEase's application for BC. The ban was later lived, and NetEase was fined for "gross violations" of regulations. The WoW expansion was also heavily edited (blood changed from red to black, skulls removed from spikes, etc.) to meet these regulations.
Wrath of the Lich King faced similar changes, including character/creature model edits, like changing a bone dragon into a normal one. Chinese WoW gamers will finally be getting the second expansion later this month.
NetEase CEO William Ding reassured the community that Wrath of the Lich King will still be a fantastic expansion, despite whatever changes were made:
" World of Warcraft is one of the most popular online games among Chinese players, and we believe that the new content in Wrath of the Lich King will generate even more excitement. We are fully prepared on all fronts to provide great service and support to all of the new and returning players throughout China, and we look forward to welcoming them to Northrend."
At least this meansthe Chinese WoW players will get Cataclysm too, at least in a few years.

The 'great' places with a market for these games, such as the US, EU, or NZ are all globalised into one western culture. Just because skeletons and red blood are appropriate symbolic images in our western culture doesn't mean that it has to be appropriate in eastern culture. If they don't like it, they don't need to have it, it's that simple. I'm happy that Blizzard are making an effort to create a censored/changed version for the Chinese. 0 thumbs!Reenee since May 2001 | Aug 26, 10quote Neomancer Mike

Are you it's the culture and not the government?I've seen plenty of arguments online about this censorship ordeal, and I kind of wished everyone asked each other "Are you sure it's the culture and not the government?"
I know for a fact that skeletons are considered sacred in traditional eastern culture. Having said that, I do feel that all world cultures who are even remotely touched by globalisation and the like, are far more open-minded and less 'superstitious', and I'm sure plenty of eastern people don't have a problem with seeing skeletons, dead dragons, etc. Having said that, they're a communist community, so that doesn't necessarily mean that the government actually give a shit about their peoples' interests.
To be honest with you, I think it's a bit of both. Some superstitious fellow in the goverment somewhere mentioned it to some other superstitious fellow, who mentioned it to some other superstitious fellow, and it went on like that I suppose.

NetherRealm considering Mortal Kombat for PC
If your PC copy of Street Fighter IV is sitting lonely on the shelf, Mortal Kombat designer and series creator Ed Boon says he may have the cure for what ails you.
"We're definitely considering [bringing it to PC]. I've thought 'How many fighting game players are PC guys?' Apparently there seems to be a market for that in Europe. Since we're on the Unreal Engine, I guess it's not that much of a change from the console versions."
The Unreal engine is certainly PC friendly -- it is where it originated and all, and hey, it worked well for Arkham Asylum, which was also published by Warner Bros.
But is there enough of an audience to warrant a release? Last we checked in (quite some time ago), Capcom felt "okay" about Street Fighter IV sales on the platform, though with many deals since then, we'd think many more gamers have warmed up to the idea of a PC fighter. Here's hoping.

With Modern Warfare 2 being dinged for not having mod support or dedicated servers, Treyarch sought to make good with Call of Duty: Black Ops by putting dedicated servers back in for the PC version. Now Treyarch has also confirmed mod tools will be made available to the players.
It's not known how much of the game will be modified as Treyarch says there are issues with the game engine and internal tool not sitting well with the modding tools. As for when you can get your hands on the mod tools, you'll have to wait sometime after launch as the devs are busy finishing up Black Ops for release.
Those of you who missed messing with the game's finer settings will be happy to know the dev console will also be available -- server operators will once again be able to change the gravity to throw everyone off.

Mafia II Ships In North America
Hot off the presses, 2K Games has announced that their highly anticipated Action title, Mafia II, has begun shipping to stores across North America today. As you'd expect, the studio is super excited to get the game into your hands:
"Mafia II is what gamers want in a mob game the marriage of a compelling story with edge-of-the-seat action and lifelike characters that immerse players in an epic entertainment experience," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "When you add in a setting that accurately reflects a period in history that has never been rendered so beautifully, it sets a new benchmark not just for the action-crime genre, but for any game set in the real world with a rich story to tell."
Mafia II is scheduled for release in Australia on August 26th and everywhere else on August 27th.
Plain Sight 1.2 patch adds persistent power-ups
If you've never played Beatnik's multiplayer suicidal robot ninja game Plain Sight, well boy, now's a better time than ever.
First off: the 1.2 patch has just been released, which adds a persistent power-up system. Whereas before you were randomly awarded with a power-up after collecting a star, now you've gotta buy power-ups with collected stars. After buying, you can jack yourself up with as many as three at a time. Power-ups can be activated as you please, but each have different cooldown rates.
Beatnik says the new system should be good, but should you encounter any bugs or balancing issues, head to the forum.
While they were at it, the team thought they'd make fun of pirates a bit upon discovering an "out of date, LAN only version" had been making the rounds. "If you're too cheap to spend $10 you can play all alone offline," they snicker.
Speaking of dollars, it's also a good idea to get on the game now as GamersGate is currently selling it for just four of them during the final week of their summer sale, alongside other goodness like The Path, Braid, Beat Hazard, and Machinarium (all dirt cheap).

Final Fantasy buffs looking forward to braving the whole new world of Final Fantasy XIV will get their chance starting September 30th once Square Enix's latest MMORPG goes live, just as long as the flavor you're looking for is Windows-based PC. Those of you wanting to play FFXIV on the PS3 will need to wait until sometime next March 2011, so it won't be a multiplatform launch.
FFXIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka explained that the primary reason for the PS3 version being held back for so long was the RAM restrictions which still plague current console hardware, on even the Cell-equipped PS3. Most game ready PCs built by enthusiasts are capable of utilizing much more RAM than consoles, so the development team needs to work the extra mile to optimize FFXIV for both platforms; the PS3 version simply needs that much more time to get right. Speaking to VG247 at Gamescom:
"The main reason was the memory... On the PC, they have enormous memory. For PS3, there's a restriction."They are adjusting the memory size and customising it; it took longer then we were expecting. But we're really working hard to bring it out as soon as possible."
An Xbox 360 version of FFXIV has not yet been announced, but Square Enix is still working with Microsoft to make something happen. Perhaps the lessons learned in FFXIV's PS3 production will apply equally well to a potential 360 port.
