Microsoft's kid-friendly and easy-to-use game creation app Kodu has extended its reach from the Xbox 360 to your personal computer. A free preview is available for download to try your hand at making games and showing them off for the world to see.
Kodu brings in its own assortment of tools, editors, and characters to help bring your ideas to life and set them in motion. But its charm comes from its simple interface: the icon-based menus make finding that particular knick-knack a breeze while objects can be set to behave and react with recognizable commands such as "see", "hear", and "scored." The Kodu PC Technical Preview brings in some general improvements: the ability to save games as documents for e-mail and storage, and a streamlined install process for computer labs.
The Koduinstaller weighs in at a modest 153MB with no set system requirements as Microsoft is trying to make Kodu run on as many hardware configurations as possible. No word yet on cost or when a final version will be available but it may be priced similarly to the 360's counterpart at $5.
