WAR! content update now available for Team Fortress 2

WAR! content update now available for Team Fortress 2

The furious fighting between Team Fortress 2 classes has come to an end, and the results are in. The Soldier barely comes out on top of the Demoman by just over 34,000 frags. Celebrations are in order as the new WAR! update is finally released, as well as a free weekend for new players to enjoy the new content.

To all the Demomen everywhere, we feel your pain. The least we can do is mention your new set of gear first:

Eyelander - Guarantees a decapitation on hit. Your maximum health is lowered while having the weapon on hand but every successful frag with the sword will grant you a boost in health and speed.
Chargin' Targe - This shield will replace the Sticky Launcher but it has some unique capabilities. Simply equipping the item gives you a 50% more resistance against fire damage and a 65% boost against blast damage. The shield's main attack is an incredibly quick charge at your target that has the potential to inflict a critical hit depending on how far away you start your charge. Not even Scouts will outrun you. Supplements the Eyelander.
Scottish Resistance - A sticky bomb launcher that can lay twice as many stickies than the normal launcher with the added capability to only detonate bombs within your line of sight. Perfect for defensive Demomen but be wary as the bombs have a longer priming rate.

Soldiers, you've done yourselves and America proud. Here are your three unlockables as well as the bonus item you've earned:

Direct Hit - If you've got a knack for accuracy, this is the rocket launcher for you. The rockets from this thing fly 80% faster and hit 25% harder than their normal counterpart. The only downside is the blast radius from these rockets are 70% smaller so make those shots count.
Equalizer - This pickaxe takes advantage of your well-being: the less health you have, the faster you move and the more damage you will inflict while wielding this weapon.
Buff Banner - Dole out some damage to fill up a rage meter while this item is in your inventory. When the meter is full, pull out your bugle to play a morale-boosting call that causes all nearby teammates to inflict mini-crits for 14 seconds.
Gunboats - Sollies, this is what you have been working for. Equip these boots to take much less damage from rocket jumps.

Along with the new gear, players can look forward to two new maps, the brand-new crafting system, 35 new achievements for the Demoman and Soldier (each), and some minor changes. For those taking advantage of the free weekend, it will last until Sunday 1:00 PM PST so be sure to download early, or suffer horrendous download speeds. Better yet, why not buyor gift Team Fortress 2 at a 50 percent discount? The price cut lasts until the free weekend is over.
