EA has announced today it would be expanding the Army ofTwo and Dragon Age: Origins franchises with comic books, set to be released in January with IDW Publishing.
"We’ve seen an increasing number of video game tie-ins with comics over the last few years. This marks another step in our strategy for extending EA’s wholly-owned game properties to new media. It is exhilarating to be working with the comic book creators directly," said Mike Quigley, VP of Global Marketing with EA Games Label.
Army of Two will be handled by long-time comic writer Peter Milligan, with Chest Ocampo on cover art and Dexter Soy taking care of the interior penciling. The first story arc expecting in January 2010 will be titled "Across the Border," and follows ex-Army Rangers Salem and Rios forming the Private Military Corporation: Trans World Operations. The events take place before the sequel,The 40thDay, and our fearless bromance duo will be pitted against the Mexican army and drug cartels.
The Dragon Age: Origins comics, isn't as far along. An interior artist has yet to be announced, but Orson Scott Card, whose work Shadow Complex was based on (consequently stirring up controversy over his homophobia), will be handling the writing; cover art will fall into Humberto Ramos' hands. Incidentally, BioWare may be taking the Jade Empire route with Dragon Age: Origins character relationships, as hinted during E3.
"This is a great opportunity for IDW to work with a worldwide leader in video games," said Greg Goldstein, chief operating officer for IDW. "We look forward to bringing a tremendous amount of great content into the comics market."
While you can get each issue in print at any comic book outlet, they will also be released digitally for iPhone and other compatible media devices.
