EVE Dominion Testing - Capital Ship Madness

The Winter 2009 expansion for EVE Online, Dominion, has entered EVE's Singularity testing server. The full feature list of Dominion expansion is still work in progress - we don't even have preliminary patch notes yet - but it looks to be shaping up to be a massive shakeup to the game as it is played in the deep 0.0 security space. Details are still far from being set in stone but for the broad strokes how EVE is going to change you can check out the following dev blogs:

Sovereignty - Breaking the ChainsSovereignty: Emergence is NeatDominion - The Capital BattlefieldPrint 'Hello, World'

In the "Print 'Hello, World'" blog CCP unwraps the first bits of the new Sove211creignty mechanics that replace the current POS warfare for system control. Included is also the schedule for first three developer-organized testing events for Dominion features on Singularity:

The faction ships test - Friday the 18th of September at 18:00The supercapitals test - Friday the 25th of September at 18:00The sovereignty test - the week of the 5th to the 11th of October (subject to change)

All times listed are in EVE time (which is GMT).

What is unusual about the supercapital test is that everyone on the test server will be temporarily given level 5 in every skill with both supercapitals and the needed modules distributed through the "redeem" system (they are normally not available on the test server). Expect massive fleets of Titans and Motherships duking it out as newer players rush to try out these super-expensive toys, generally unavailable on the live server - except for the super-rich members of 0.0 alliances. Expect to see the server imploding under the load or something and a lot of massive ship wrecks around as the new "Death Star Laser" single target Titan weapon gets abused...

The first Dominion build that is now up also includes graphical upgrades to the planets of EVE, first build of the new Chrome-based in-game web browser "Moondoggie" and some parts of the new Sovereignty mechanics, but a lot is also still missing - CCP has gone for a piecemeal route for testing the new expansion, adding in features and content as they become ready instead of pushing the whole thing in one go.

Dominion is currently scheduled to be released in late November 2009.
