Something Awful's goons are notorious for their trolling around the internet but two goons took it upon themselves to build up some gaming cred after failing to get employed in the industry. They show it by localizing Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale, a game about a shopkeep who must pay a loan by selling off items she finds in dungeons.
Andrew Dice and Robin-Light Williams founded Carpe Fulgur, whose name stands for "seize the lightning" in Latin. It refers to the fact that nothing can be done without risk, especially foolish ones; in this case, Dice and Williams were translating Recettear on a very tiny budget and hiring a friend of Dice to handle some interface art.
Carpe Fulgur is intent on localizing Japanese games as best as possible (while taking some amusing liberties) for the rest of the world to enjoy. Recettear was an interesting choice for the company's first project since it's one of the few Japanese indie titles that doesn't have any pornographic content.
Impulse, GamersGate, and Steam are selling Recettear for a solid $20. A demo is available to try out from the company's website but just know you're in for a challenge.
