Last we looked, Lost Planet 2 had sold 1.5 million copies across both consoles -- not amazing, but not exactly terrible, either.
Capcom's head of R&D Keiji Inafune has indicated the reason for the less than stellar sales is the move away from the original game's unique ice-covered world.
"It's easy to say because we've already got Lost Planet 2 out, but if I were to define the concept for Lost Planet 2 - the shooting game based on the extreme icy conditions. That was quite rare in the genre, so rather than going at the variety of the environment settings and so on, I feel that there were a lot more things we could've done in that extreme icy condition."
Presumably, the first title profited better than its sequel, though respectfully, we're sure some would disagree with Inafune's assessment, including ourselves, if only in part. Nevertheless, it would be exciting to see a return to the ice-ridden planet, or a new one altogether, what with much-improved graphics since we last saw it and all.
