Microsoft has conceded the long overdue return of glory to Windows-based PC gaming many times in the past, to the point where the disenchanted have to come to expect little from the pep talks.
Manning the PC gaming fort is Dave Luehman, Microsoft Games Studios general manager, who addresses the situation once more. Speaking to MCV UK, Luehman explains that Microsoft remains committed to leading the way for a PC gaming renewal, though he knows they have much to prove. To do this, Microsoft is looking to invest in even more properties which could be unique to the PC platform:
"We are putting some real investment and big IPs behind the Windows platform. We’ve spoken of the first three, Fable III, Age of Empires Online and Microsoft Flight. However we are not going to stop there."
Investment is always a key step in getting projects up and running, so it could be reassuring that at least the first party studios are keen in giving Games for Windows Live a shot in the arm. The next step is to inspire other publishers to flock to an official Windows-based PC platform brand, and that will involve further research into what sort of business models Microsoft could adapt or evolve.
The naysaying levelled against Microsoft has not been entirely unwarranted; most of the franchises which Luehman touts as the new banner under which the PC faithful shall gather were in fact the very same ones that the publisher previously curbeddevelopment for, as part of restructuring.
