A 33-year old mother has received a suspended jail sentence after neglecting her children and pets due to obsessively playing Small Worlds for hours at a time. On top of her sentence, she is barred from using a computer.
When police went to investigate the family's home, they discovered the mother's three children (aged 9, 10, and 13) were forced to eat foods that didn't require cooking for over six months. Aside from the house being laid with rubbish everywhere, the pet dogs had died and were left to decompose in the dining room for two months; the woman tried to block the officers from seeing the bodies until she relented on her own.
It might have been possible the woman was using Small Worlds as an outlet since her husband died from a heart attack some years ago. Since August 2009, she had been playing to the point where she only got two hours of sleep each night.
