Zen Bound: a game being made about rope

Zen Bound: a game being made about rope

An indie game is being finished up right now with a premise that sounds decidedly un-game like: in Zen Bound, you have to tie stuff up.

Each level features a different scultpure that needs tying up. You have to move your rope around until the sculpture is well-roped. The trick is that you only have a limited amount of rope to work with. That seems to be pretty much the entire game.

"We want the game to feel hand-made: we photographed materials and sampled rope sounds. Bass, strings, a metallic teapot and many others were recorded separately from live instruments for the musical score. We studied totem poles and Mexican wood sculptures for reference. Zen Bound is a game of stone, wood and rope; much effort was put into making them feel right," said creators Secret Exit.

The concept and coding was done by a certain guy named Mikko Memon Mononen. He comes from a brief background in the demoscene, and then worked in a lead engineer position for Crysis.

After the iPhone/iPod, PC and Mac versions are released, the game might become a digital download available through the PSN, XBLA and WiiWare networks.
