Games for Windows LIVE boss laid off

Games for Windows LIVE boss laid off

Following up on last week's news of Microsoft laying off 5,000 people, reports are in the Games for Windows LIVE general manager Chris Early is in that bunch: his time has "come to a close", an e-mail bounceback from the corporation stated.

Since the service -- which offered a platform for gamers much in the vein of its console equivalent Xbox LIVE -- underwent its overhaul (read: became free), PC players have been wondering whether or not it could still compete with the likes of Steam. Though securing some big exclusive downloadable content (DLC) recently, progress has appeared slow. With these job cuts, especially its boss getting the axe, what will happen to it?

Early is reported to have been a "stout defender" of Games for Windows.
