A debut trailer for a game that (personally) popped out of left field was released last night -- and it looks pretty good.
The game is called CrimeCraft. Similar to older MMO-RPG-FPS hybrids like Face of Mankind, Hellgate: London, and newer upcoming twitch-based shooter Korean MMO Huxley, CrimeCraft combines elements of skill-based action combat with a persitent gaming world with MMORPG elements. But the biggest difference here is that CrimeCraft is played in a third person view.
Made by the mysterious Vogster Entertainment company, CrimeCraft is supposedly coming in 2009, with a closed beta perhaps starting as soon as March.
Not many details have been released, but here are couple that have:
The game uses the Unreal Tournament 3 engineThere will be public places to hang out, but fights will take place in instanced areas, with a max of 16 players (similar in setup to Guild Wars.)There well be extensive clothing options and customization options for your character.Crafting allows for drugs to be made, and weapons customized. You can own your own stores and sell stuffA "black market" auction house The game has MMORPG type items, such as armor for your body, etc. Game is much more team and gang based than solo focused Originally the game was going to be free download, and then work on some sort of microtransaction system, but this has not been finalized. Those are most of the highlights.
CrimeCraft bears a strong gameplay resemblance to Realtime World's APB, which is a persistent world MMO-RPG-FPS hybrid, centered on the battle between cops and gangs. However APB was supposed to be released last year and seems to have run into production pitfalls (I say this because this has been a complete lack of any new information surfacing on the project, and they did not respond to my earlier emails asking what the product's status was.)

Will Vogster Entertainment be able to pull it off? We'll keep our eyes on CrimeCraft and let you know if any more information pops up. Not too keen on the whole "Craft" reference, but this game looks worth keeping tabs on.
