Here's the story of a Virginia boy who really loves learning.
Around 7:40 am on Monday, the 6-year-old missed his bus but was determined to get to school one way or another. Instead of relying on his parents, he took the keys to his family's 2005 Ford Taurus and drove off. While his mother slept, blissfully unaware, the boy drove nearly six miles before going off the rural road and hitting an embankment, followed by a utility pole, less than two miles from his school.
His parents, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman (26) and David Eugene Dodson (40) have been charged with child endangerment. The mother is being held without bond, while the father was released on a $5k bond.
"He was very intent on getting to school," said Northumberland County Sheriff Chuck Wilkins. "When he got out of the car, he started walking to school. He did not want to miss breakfast and PE."
As if that story weren't bizarre enough, the boy told police that he learned to drive by playing Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam. Now that is one intuitive kid.
Both he and his 4-year-old brother are currently in protective custody.
