Three screenshots from Fallout 3 Operation Anchorage released

Three new screenshots for the upcoming DLC for Fallout 3, Operation Anchorage, were released today.

Shot number 1 shows a Chinese base setup. Notice the Chinese flag: it looks like it only has big star on it, with no smaller ring of stars, such as the modern People Republic's of China flag, or China's distinctive war flag design, that is used in military operations. Perhaps this either due to the low resolution of the shot -- or, more interestingly, perhaps this alternate Fallout universe China has a flag with only big star on it.

Besides these details about the flag and the Chinese sign, this screen shot doesn't really show much that isn't in Fallout 3 in the ways of textures and models and such.

Shot number 2 shows a very cool looking stealth/special ops armor. The guy is also carrying a sword, which lends the impression that he is some sort of ninja (yes I know ninja's are specifically a Japanese thing, but just saying.) Those red lights could be some sort of emitters, suggesting the suit is a stealth suit. I never got the Stealth Boy in Fallout 3, so I'm not sure how similar this armor is to the one already in the game. In the background, what looks very much like missiles are stacked in containers.

In shot number 3 we get to see a bit of the beautiful Alaskan scenery. Although the player sort of looks larger than the trees, the snow and the water look pretty good. If I remember correctly there was snow in Oblivion so it might have not taken Bethesda all that much time to import it into Alaska.

In Operation Anchorage, the player will be part of an advance strike team with the task of freeing an area of Alaska from red China's control. It seems likely that the DLC will be more focused on combat than it will on RPG. The Xbox version will come first, and cost 800 points -- it is due this month but no firm date seems to be set. You can expect a new perk ('covert ops'), some new weapons and armor and more in this tasty cold treat that certainly many will be looking for to. Expect about 4 or 5 hours worth of content.
