Team Fortress 2 Heavy update coming next week

Team Fortress 2 Heavy update coming next week

Valve has announced that the Heavy Weapons Guy will be getting his very own update next Tuesday, August 19.  This is going to be a rollout update, meaning not all the content will come at once.

On the official Team Fortress 2blog, Valve's Robin Walker dished out several details about a new map, CP_Steel, created by Jamie "Fishbus" Manson.  Here's the sales pitch from the official Heavy Update site:

A complex Attack/Defense control point map, with some unique gameplay. Unlike most TF2 maps, capturing a control point modifies the layout of the map, opening and closing routes for each team. As a result, the offensive team has a wide variety of tactical choices around how they'd like to assault the final point. Should they use Scouts and Soldiers to rush the final point with only the routes they start with? Should they go for the side control points and open up more routes to the final? Should they capture extra points to shut down the defender's routes? The many choices keep the map interesting for a long time, providing a wide variety of experiences in a game.

Sounds like gibbs of fun.  In addition to CP_Steel, a new map called "Payload" will be released and is said to focus more on open spaces than Goldrush.  Walker also mentioned a new play mode that include five new arenas for it.  Of course, the Heavy Update also comes with thirty-five new achievements and three unlockable weapons for the lovable minigun wielding tank.

According to Walker, this is the team's biggest project up to date.  As always, a "Meet the Team" video will accompany the update's release, and as well as a free weekend beginning Friday, August 22 at 11 am PST.
