It's been just over two months since Team Fortress 2 has gone without an update with Valve's TF2 team assisting the Left 4 Dead 2 team getting their game wrapped up in a nice severed hand. But it appears the TF2 folks have finally been released to resume work on the game as they've decided to spook out the employees of RED and BLU with a Halloween-themed content update.
The "Terrifying Team Fortress Haunted Hallowe'en Special" is a series of updates that will run on the Team Fortress blog from October 29 to November 2. Today, the TF2 teamhas revealed a new King of the Hill map called "Harvest," featuring a unique addition: a ghost! Boo and such.
Any hapless player who gets into its path will be temporarily paralyzed with fear and left completely defenseless. Who knows if an Ubercharge can stand up to the ghost's deadly gaze? The map will also afflict corpses with candy for some zany reason.
Included with this update are the "Mildly Disturbing Halloween Hats," with one of them revealed to be just a paper bag with a face scribbled on. The new map will also come with exploding pumpkins and five new achievements that are linked to unlocking the new hats.
Only 10,319 players were able to get a few hours ago: a free hat! Said 10,319 players nabbed the "Ghastly Gibus," the same spectral top hat worn by the ghost. You can still get one by dominating a player who is wearing the hat while playing in the Harvest map. Good luck with that.
All of the new content will presumably be released at the end of the blog updates. Update: New content is out now!
