Looks like fans waiting to jump into Guild Wars 2 will not have any respite in 2010 coming their way. Jacob Lee, ArenaNet's CFO told investors in a recent conference call following Q3 2009 financial reports that the game is not going to launch in 2010 but is actually likely for 2011. Regular folks can still get their chance to try the game out at end of next year though, with the possibility of at least a closed beta being launched.
The first Guild Wars game, made by Seattle-based ArenaNet and publisher NCsoft, made a big splash when it came out in 2005. Despite being free-to-play, the game offered an abundance of unique classes (such as Mesmer and Ritualist) and an exceptionally immersive twitch-based PvP system. Guild Wars quickly became popular among hardcare MMO gamers and took home numerous "Game of the Year" awards from media outlets.
Guild Wars 2 takes place nearly three centuries after the events of the first game (and its expansion packs). With the ancient dragons have woken from their millenia-long slumber and threaten the land once more, all the races of Tyria must unite; for gamers, this means all races seen in Eye of the North will be playable, with the exception of dwarves.
The first teaser video from ArenaNet was released earlier this year at Gamescom:
