In one of the more creative game mods I've seen, somebody mixed the engine of the Bioware's D&D RPG game Neverwinter Nights 2, with the gameplay elements of Guitar Hero. Sounds crazy? It looks like the mix works, from the video below.
The mod was made by a certain Adam Miller (check out his website here). This guy appears to be sort of ascended mod master. He's making this very impressive campaign/module for Neverwinter Nights 2, called Dark Waters, of which Lute Hero is a stand-alone part.
Where did Adam get his inspiration from? "I've always had fun merging gameplay into Neverwinter Nights, starting with Demon Cards which was a mix of Magic the Gathering coupled with real-time combat. I had been playing Guitar Hero and watching School of Rock, and I thought to myself 'Why can't I really melt some faces with my wicked guitar solo?' A few months and lots of swearing later, Lute Hero was born," he said in an interview with BeyondThePale of the Neverwinter Nights 2 Vault.
Judging from the video, the better you play, the more havok you wreak with your lute. Get a long combo in, and watch people explode into flames.
What a great idea for a mod. If you have Neverwinter Nights 2, it seems like this should practically be a required download.
