Brazil gaining a massively multiplayer online soccer game next year

Brazil gaining a massively multiplayer online soccer game next year

South Americans love soccer (football) -- so it should be no surprise that this passion is something that a game developer would love to tap into. Today, Interzone Enterainment announced  a Portuguese MMO PC soccer (football) game for Brazil, which will be followed by other international versions to be released around the world.

The new soccer game is called Interzone Futebol, and its far more than a run-the-mill, play-a-match,dribble-the-ball, shoot-score-save pretend-to-be-injured soccer game. The game looks like it will attempt to encourage a strong community of soccer enthusiasts through different features that take place off of the pitch.

For starters, each player of Interzone Futebol will have their own position-specific characters. These characters will develop skills and other moves through gaining experience. For the actual matches, it looks like there will be no AI players: every player in a game will be controlled by someone, including goalkeepers.

A larger portion of Interzone Futebol's players' soccer careers will happen after the games. Players will be able to collect sponsorships, customize the appearance of their characters, earn salaries, and spend real-world money in an online store for various things, like better cleats. And after a long match, players will be able to unwind and chat with others in virtual social spaces.

The game is coming sometime in the last couple of months of 2008.
