Dark Souls scores 279K sales during launch weekend
September draws to a close, but it's been an epic month for PS3 titles in Japan. First Namco Bandai's Tales of Xillia sells over half a million copies on launch day alone, and now industry research firm Media Create confirms From Software's Dark Souls is another blockbuster of a title. While it didn't quite reach anywhere close to 525,605 unit sales secured by Xillia in a single day, Dark Souls still managed to sell an 279,567 copies during launch weekend. Seems like plenty of souls hungered for From Software's latest vision in cruel and unusual punishment, and right now those figures are for Japan alone. Japanese players are also alone in having to sit through some patches which From Software is issuing as quickly as possible in order to address new issues which emerged since the most glaring ones involving game freezes while connected to the game servers. The weekly sales period ending September 25th also brought good things for plenty of other new titles, including the ICO/Shadow of the Colossus Limited Edition PS3 release which bundles high-definiition remakes of Sony's classic PS2 titles. The Japanese release of Gears of War 3 also managed to break into the top five, letting the Xbox 360 shine once more with one heckuva title.
