Korea is the land of MMORPG's: they have more online games than you can shake a bowl of kimchi at.
One of the many, many Korean MMORPG's is called Kal-Online, and they are trying to setup a presence in the English-speaking world. They sent out a press release today, which had a certain, untranslatable charm to it:
"Introduction Kal-Online, brings a new genre of Oriental Fantasy to the players. Kal-Online has oriental sentiment and culture in a fantasy world. Most current games based on western fantasy,SF,etc. But Kal-Online can make the players to have a new experience," it started off. The game also has "Individual and Various Characters" and "KAL Online is graphically representing oriental background, such as, massive mountains and traditional building reminds players of oriental epic story."
Sounds good? I wonder how the English translation is in the actual game, if this press release is any indiciation. (Not that I'm blaming anyone; English isn't easy for non-natives.)
Anyways: Kal-Online is appears to be a fairly standard YAMFRIES ( Yet Another MMORPG Featuring Rangers, Imps, Elves or Sorcerers) game, made by Korean outfit Inixsoft.
The game is free to play; however there is a store with items available for real-world cash.
Kal-Online has four different primary classes from taken right out of 'classic' "oriental fantasy": the knight, mage, archer, and thief. After level 50 is reached, players can pick a sub-class. You can also turn yourself into a monster, apparently. The game has PvP, big bosses, towns, emotes, and all that standard other YAMFRIES stuff that you might expect.
