Proving prescient previous rumors true, Bethesda is coming out with another DLC offering on April 6th.
The new DLC is going to be called "The Pitt: Expanded." Bethesda VP Heath Pines gave a quick conference call to gaming journalists on the new DLC this morning, though some details were a bit hazy.
When asked what the main idea behind "The Pitt: Expanded" was, Heath Pines said that the original Pitt DLC (released last week) did not live up to "external expectations." Heath Pines went on to say that "The Pitt: Expanded" would add "amazing amounts of new content, like a knife and a guy with a funny hat named Eddie" and that the new version of the Pitt "might actually work for some people the first time they download it, and they will be able to play it and stuff, after buying it."
Besides the new knife and Eddie -- the guy with the hat -- "The Pitt: Expanded" also adds, unexpectedly, a new gender to the game. "We like wanted to open up the players choices and stuff," said Heath Pines, "so we are introducing a new gender to the Fallout universe. Now, if you start a character, you'll have the choice of being male, female or a ghoul."
When one gaming journalist pointed out that a "ghoul" doesn't qualify for a new gender, Heath Pines stated that this was all a work in progress, and they actually haven't decided on anything for sure yet.
When a gaming journalist pointed out that the new DLC was due to arrive in 5 days, Heath Pines further went on to say something more about Eddie, the guy with the funny bowler hat with a stripe on it, and how amazing he was. "He is really great," he said. "A real L-O-L fest," he added.
Heath Pines than talked more about the new 'gender' in the game: "The new gender is going to completely expand the RPG-iness of the game," said Heath Pines, between many sips of a glass of water. When asked for specific details on how the new gender would change the gameplay experience, he mumbled something and said "there is like a new dialogue option somewhere or something -- and forty thousand million new game endings."
Only one screenshot was released for this upcoming new "The Pitt:Expanded" DLC, and we posted it above. When it came to the flying dog -- which many gaming journo's suspected to be some sort of new mutant, flying Dogmeat -- Heath Pines was unnaturally taciturn. "I'm not sure," he said in the conference, when asked for details. When questioned further, he sort shrugged his shoulders. When asked for a third time, he seemed to get a bit annoyed, and then said that, really, he did not know anything about it at all.
In a surprise move, GDC 2010 attendees have awarded the "The Pitt: Expanded" for their "Best Writing of the Year" award, because they heard the game was good, or something. Not to be outdone, GameBesider gave the game a 92% score in an early review of an alpha version of the DLC, while BGN magazine awarded "The Pitt: Expanded" with their "Greatest Innovation" award, while ConsoleSpy said the new DLC earned their "2010's Experience of a Lifetime" award while another 20 magazines awarded the game with a split of "Best FPS" and "Best RPGs" awards, amongst other various accolades. "Moar profound than war&peice," one game reviewer from GameExplosion twitted this morning.
