The best selling PC game this week is...Diablo?

The best selling PC game this week is...Diablo?

Blizzard must love this: spurred on by the announcement of Diablo 3, gamers have been picking up the Diablo Battle Chest in droves. (The Battle Chest is the 'final' edition of Diablo, and includes Diablo 1, 2, and the expansion packs sold together.)

Being a long time PC gamer the following sales chart is quite alarmingly, but here it is: the top spot goes to the seven year old Diablo Battle Chest, and is followed by the World of Warcraft Battle Chest, The Sims 2: IKEA Home Stuff, the Spore Creature Creator, and the Orange Box. (These numbers come from retailers across North America, and are sales totals from just a one week sales period, which came to an end on July 3rd.)

There are probably two camps rushing to the stores here. The first (and larger camp), could be possibly be gamers with a reawakened nostalgia for Diablo 2 after hearing that a third game was coming. The second camp is probably a whole new batch of gamers who missed Diablo 1 and 2 and now want to see what all the fuss is about. But those two camps notwithstanding, I'm still surprised that so many people would be eager to buy a seven year old game -- especially with all the high quality knock-offs around, like Loki, Titan's Quest, Spellforce 2, and all the rest of them.

But forgot about the seven year old Diablo for a second -- The Sims 2: IKEA Home Stuff is the third best selling game?

Oh man, that's rough.
