Section 8 1.1 patch released

Hit multiplayer shooter Section 8 saw its first major patch release last week if you missed it, bringing the game up to version 1.1 and including a ton of bug fixes, on top of matchmaking and online performance improvements.

The release notes are rather long, so below we've included just the "major" changes; see the rest at the source. Grab the patch through Games for Windows LIVE.

MAJOR

Automatch: several improvements to improve responsiveness and likelihood of finding a good match
Ranked Stats: fixed some issues with stats getting lost, new records now show at match end
Tank: Improved controls
Achievements: Fixed issues with not being awarded in certain situations
Projectiles: Improved behavior in high latency situations to be more reliable
AI: bots will now help defend human squadmates
Multiplayer: several improvements related to high latency situations

Free Mechwarrior 4 re-release coming soon

One of the PC's staple game series back in the 90's was Mechwarrior, deemed as one of the best franchises about giant heavily-armed robots destroying each other to smithereens. With a reboot of series in development, fans of Mechwarrior will want to brush the dust off their old discs in anticipation but eventually realize they won't have anybody else to frag.

Worse yet is the fact that it's been nearly a decade since the last game was released and everyone may have forgotten about it or just plain don't know what Mechwarrior is. What's a giant battle mech to do? Enter MekTek, who has just earned the rights to reintroduce Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance to the world as a free download.

The initial announcement for re-release was made back in early July 2009, but MekTek recently noted they will be meeting with the current owners of the Mechwarrior property sometime around Thanksgiving to finalize a release period. In the meantime, we think it's in everyone's best interest to know that MekTek will also be including every single Mechwarrior 4 expansion alongside the main game. This includes Black Knight, Mercenaries, and theInner Sphere 'Mech Pak, all of which are set to outfit you with every single mech, campaign, map, and weapon right from the start.

If you think you're going to need a beefy rig to run this amount of content, you should refer to the following specs for the game back when it was released in 2000:

56.6kbps modem

In other words, everybody is going to be able to run this. Except for the modem requirement, though. We hear there's this thing called "broadband" you can use instead.

With such a highly-acclaimed game set to be delivered in its entirety once more for free, there's really no reason to miss out. And for those who are willing to go the extra mile, Mechwarrior 4also supports a peripheral you young whippersnappers take for granted nowadays: joysticks. Giant robots aren't controlled with keyboards and mice so go get yourself something to get the full Mechwarrior experience. Aside from that, the only things you'd be missing out on are DOS prompts and quad-speed CD-ROM drives.

The Saboteur System Requirements Revealed

Spilling the beans this afternoon, Pandemic Studios have revealed some official minimum and recommended system requirements for their upcoming World War 2-based Action-Stealth title, The Saboteur. What kind of setup will you need to run this bad boy? Here's the scoop:

Required System Specifications:

OS: Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1, Windows 7
CPU: Core 2 Dual Core 2.4GHz or AMD equivalent
RAM: 2GB or more
DISC DRIVE: Dual Layer 1x or faster DVD Drive
Hard Drive: At least 7GB of free space
Video: Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX with 256MB of VRAM or ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro with 256MB of VRAM
Sound: Direct X 9.0c compatible sound card

Suggested Configuration:

OS: Windows XP - SP3 or Windows Vista - SP1
Processor: Quad Core running at 2.8 GHz or equivalent

Shattered Horizon "Moonrise" Content Pack Announced

Creating a little buzz this afternoon, Futuremark Games Studio has announced that they're working on the first official content pack for their recently-released multiplayer shooter, Shattered Horizon. Entitled "Moonrise", this free DLC will offer four new levels, "taking the fight deeper into space and showing a new side to the conflict." Those of you who pre-ordered the game will be invited to beta test these new maps later this week. No word on when the DLC will be released to everyone, but we'll be sure to keep you posted. Man steals 100 copies of Modern Warfare 2 from GameStop

If some guy in Pennsylvania approaches with an offer to sell you Modern Warfare 2 at a cheap price, be very suspicious. It's not that this copy is fake, just that it's likely stolen.

Around 7:00 PM on Tuesday, a man waltzed into a GameStop in Meadville and told the clerks he had a friend waiting outside, ready to shoot them both if they called the cops. He then took 100 copies of Modern Warfare 2 from behind the counter, along with some other items, racking up $6,900 in stolen merchandise.

Well, guess that's 100 copies Activision and Infinity Ward won't be seeing profits from. Don't worry, they've already sold 4.7 million in North America and the UK, so we doubt they'll miss the stolen units. We're still hoping the police catch the thief and his friend, if he actually had an accomplice.

Borderlands 1.01 patch released

Been plugging away at Gearbox's co-op shooter RPG? Well, little buddy, things got a little better as of late last evening, when the developer released the first patch for the game, fixing up numerous bugs and improving several features and functions, including server support, voice chat, and 3D Vision.

Note of course digital versions of the PC title must be patched through the outlet you purchased from -- those updates should be available shortly.
